Local Holiday Traditions for the Family

Tis the season. Ada and the greater Grand Rapids area is having many festive events happening that is sure to be fun for the whole family. So while the hustle and bustle of the holiday season is upon us, make sure to take some time out of your busy day to explore some of what west Michigan has to offer this holiday season.

One holiday tradition is Rosa Park's circle ice skating. Right in the heart of downtown grand rapids, Rosa Park circle is turned into a magical outdoor ice rink every year. Ice Skate rentals are only one dollar, and this is one event that everyone is sure to enjoy. Next time you and your family are downtown be sure to twirl your way over to check it out.

Fredrik Meijer Garden's is another local holiday staple that everyone is sure to enjoy. Every year the Garden's get a holiday make over and is filled with Christmas decorations. They have the Christmas trees from around the world exhibit, which showcases dozens of Christmas trees all decorated in the style of cultures from around the world. They also have a replica of downtown Grand Rapids made out of natural materials, and a Christmas train that is sure to be a hit with the kiddos. The greenhouse where the butterflies are held in the spring also gets a Christmas make-over, with decorations that are inspired by Mexican culture. This is a fun break from the snowy outdoors that transports you to a warmer climate, at least until you go outside again.

Grand Rapids Ballet is performing the Nutcracker from December 14 through the 23 at DeVos performing hall. This is another holiday classic that is sure to wow the entire family. Tickets start at only twenty dollars, so buy yours today!

Downtown Ada is hosting the annual Tinsel Treats and Trolleys this Friday November 30. This event starts at 5:30 pm and the covered bridge for the Bridge Lighting Ceremony and the has trolleys around downtown Ada. Be sure to come back Saturday for the annual Santa Parade starting at Thornapple River Drive and ending at the fire station with lineup starting at 10:30. Every year there are dozens of local events to get you and your family in the Christmas sprit. These annual events are sure to be fun for the entire family, and could even become a new tradition.
