How to Keep Your New Year's Resolution?
New year resolutions are something that is always Extremely popular this time of year. You always hear about different people making commitments to change their lives, however it seems at the beginning of each year, many of us are still left repeating the same resolutions every year. 80 percent of new year resolutions fail by February, according to US News. So what can you do to make sure that your goals are achieved in 2019?
Realize why you are doing this. Write down to yourself your goal, and what achieving this goal would mean to you in your life. Thinking about the greater purpose that this means in your life is one way to hold yourself accountable. This is also something that you can look back at when you want to stop working towards your goal. If you write down your goal you are 70 percent more likely to achieve this goal.
Make a plan, and schedule that plan. Set yourself off for success and make sure you have a scheduled plan to follow. For example, if your goal is to eat healthier, schedule 30 minutes in the beginning of the week to plan out your meals and make a grocery list. Setting reminders on your phone is a great way to do this. If you have a written out schedule, be sure to include this in your schedule as well.
Fail forward. Change is hard, and with any change you are not going to be perfect when you first start to change the action. When things get in your way of wanting to achieve your resolution, realize that you failed and ask yourself what happened that made you fail? Its easy for us to make excuses for our actions, and to say things like "I just didn't have time." While this is true in some cases, most of the time this is an excuse we tell ourselves when we don't accomplish everything we needed to that day. Its okay to fail, everyone fails. The important thing is that you learn from your failure and continue on in your goal.
Have an accountability partner. Find someone you trust that can hold you accountable for your actions. If you and your friends all have the same resolution, consider doing it together. For example, if you both want to lose weight, enroll in the same fitness classes together every morning so you have someone that you are committed to. This person also can tell you when you start to veer of cores.
